Attention Cordata Neighbors:
Starting in January we will officially be identified by our new
name: CORDATA NEIGHBORHOOD. On December 7th, City
Council approved the new boundary change, the change from
Guide Meridian/Cordata Neighborhood and what we have been
working on since 2007, the Cordata Neighborhood Plan.

We hope to welcome you to the first General Meeting in 2011
on January 11 at 7:00 PM in the Birchwood Presbyterian Church.
It also will be our Annual meeting and voting for the Board of
Directors.

In addition, following the By-Laws of our Association, we ask
that the dues of $10.for 2011 be paid on an annual basis. That
means if a person joins other than January 2011,the dues are
the same and the following January, 2012, the annual dues should
be submitted at that year's first General Meeting.

All people are welcomed at our meetings. There are certain
expenses that occur during the year and we ask only a minimal
fee to cover those small expenses.

Help with the 4th of July Needed!
Do you love the 4th of July festivities at Elizabeth park? Then help
make it happen. Colleen Haggerty, who has coordinated the event for 6
years needs to step down. Someone needs to step forward if you want
to see this fabulous community event continue.
Colleen can help you this year and walk you through the steps. It
takes about 10 hours of time the month prior to the 4th and about 6
hours on the actual day.
This is a great thing to get involved in when your kids are still
young and enjoy all the fun games.

The Elementary School in the Guide Meridian Cordata Neighborhood is finally going to be built. It is scheduled for construction this summer. The Bellingham Herald’s May 15t h story asked people think up a name for the school.

There are ground rules:
• Name known and significant for members of the district.
• No conflict with other school names in the district
• Name can relate to local neighborhood or historical, geographic or cultural. Names of people or places can relate to national, local, state or Pacific NW history.
• Names of living people should be avoided. Deceased people should have attained national or local prominence in the fields of art, education, sciences or statesmanship.

Those are the ways you can help name the Elementary School in our neighborhood.
To do so, the name you choose must be entered by noon of May 24th.

Rental Unit Licensing in Bellingham

There is ongoing community discussion on the topic of rental unit licensing and MNAC has discussed the issue at length during the past two monthly meetings.

City of Bellingham Legislative Policy Analyst Mark Gardner has developed information in response to inquiries by MNAC and others, on this topic. The October 21, 2008 and May 2009 documents mentioned in Mark's memo were forwarded to MNAC representatives and association presidents yesterday (3/23/10), as part of the March MNAC meeting notes package.

Fountain District Urban Village Master Planning Process

On Wednesday, February 18, 2010 a public meeting will be held at the Fountain Community Church meeting room from 6-8pm. The meeting is being held so that project staff can present and get public feedback on the draft concepts and regulations for the Fountain District Urban Village Master Plan.
